RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS

The Research and Analysis sections include pieces that are often cited on issues related to poverty and opportunity.  This selection reflects a wide array of political perspectives.  It is far from comprehensive yet it offers a good start in any examination of key research and analysis around poverty and opportunity.  The subsections include materials available on the internet.

In addition, numerous foundation books are available on poverty, including:

Assets and the Poor: A New American Welfare Policy
Michael Sherraden, March 1991

Consequences of Growing Up Poor
Greg J. Duncan and Jeanne Brooks-Gunn, June 1997

The Role of the Entrepreneur in Combating Poverty (Ch. 14 of Ending Poverty in America)
Jack Kemp,April 2007

It Takes a Nation: A New Strategy for Fighting Poverty

Rebecca Blank, September 1998

Measuring Poverty: A New Approach
National Academy of Sciences, 1996

Working and Poor: How Economic and Policy Changes Are Affecting Low-Wage Workers
Rebecca M. Blank, Sheldon H. Danziger, and Robert F. Schoeni, December 2006

We encourage you to submit other research to reduce poverty and increase opportunity. To submit your suggestion, e-mail Jodie Levin-Epstein
